As Told By A Scoundrel: 9/11 And The Return of Jesus
"And then they will fast...." (Matthew 9:15).
Jesus said this in response to a question about why his disciples were not fasting in the same way the "good Jews" of the time fasted. He said there would come a time when his followers would fast and hunger for his return, when they would long for His second coming as the ultimate solution to all the brokenness we face.
The problem is that we too easily get deceived into thinking that something else will fulfill our soul's longings and fix the problems we face. We get deceived into thinking that if only we could get married, or have kids, or get a better job, or vote a new administration into the white house......
Or we get lulled to sleep thinking we are secure and safe and don't feel the need for Jesus to return.
What happened 21 years ago on September 11 was a reminder that this world is broken, we are not secure, and we need our King to come back.
