Wisdom From the Spirit

1

I laughed last Sunday when Pastor Chris said, “Professional Weaker Brother”, as I’ve met a few of them through the years.  I thought at the time they were over-sensitive judges of everyone’s behavior that was unlike their own—much like today’s coddled millennials living in the safe space of the basement.

I was reminded and did appreciate this series of sermons on wisdom in the family of God.  Whether we know it or like it, we are accountable to each other and need to pay closer attention to those who are young in the faith as well as those who are struggling with issues and how to glorify God.  But it did occur to me once again that every New Testament letter, while written to church congregations, can also be applied to marriage and the family—especially our own children or grandchildren who are very impressionable.  They listen and watch us like hawks!  Perhaps we are most accountable to the most vulnerable who live under our roof.

While I’m old now, I still remember well how my mother and father lived out their faith in front of their three sons.  While they passed away a long time ago, I still honor them.  By the Spirit of God they had the wisdom of God and access to “the mind of Christ” (I Corinthians 2:6-16).  We all do as well.

Hi Dick,

Could it be that the "professional weaker brother" might, at least occasionally, actually be a more mature brother who cares about personal holiness being a vital part of a church's priorities for its people?

Legalism is bad. So is license.

Just a thought.

God bless,
Shea
