Guarded Hearts

Pilippians 4:6-7

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ.

Do not be anxious about anything! Easier said than done lately. It seems like that is all we have been doing lately...feeling anxious. We have been anxious about our loved ones and ourselves getting sick. We have been worried how we will provide for our families due to our jobs being shut down because we are all quarantined. We have been anxious about doing simple everyday things like going to the store for groceries.

The next part of the verse says, “in everything through prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” The word supplication means to go ask God directly. Go directly to God but with confidence that He is Jehovah Jireh-God that will provide. Go directly to God but with complete unwavering trust that He is Elohim Shomri-God that protects me! Go directly to God with thanksgiving, confidence, and trust that He is Yahweh, the God who saves.

So what happens when we go directly to God with thanksgiving, confidence, and trust that He is Yahweh? The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and mind. When I read the words “guard your heart and mind”, I picture an army of guards with mighty weapons and shields protecting my heart and mind!

Even though we may not understand exactly what is going on in the world or why it is happening, when we go directly to God with complete certainty of His love, faithfulness, and might, our hearts and minds are guarded by a supernatural army and we are filled with God’s peace instead of fear.

Thank you April! I love the imagery you presented about a supernatural army of guards from the Lord protecting our hearts and minds! It is comforting to think about how He, indeed, has His angels fighting battles on our behalf all around us!
That was very important so true . Thank you April.
