John 8:31-47

Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.  -John 8:42-44

When we place our trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, something amazing happens.  We literally are born into the family of God and God becomes our Father. Every true believer in Jesus is a child of God. God has given us his life and nature and we desire to be just like Him. In other words, we display the character of our Heavenly Father.

The Jews in Jesus’ day were awaiting their Savior but as He stood before them, they rejected Him in unbelief. In their sinful, lost state they sought to do the will of their father the devil. What is the will of the devil? His nature is to kill, steal and destroy.  Fallen humanity without Jesus is connected to satan and he is in fact their spiritual father. The Good News is Jesus came to set us free from sin and the kingdom of darkness.

If you have never made Jesus the Lord of your life, I want to encourage you with these precious words: “But as many as received Him (Jesus) to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His Name.  -John 1:12  

As a child of God, I declare out loud today:

Because God is my Father,  I love Jesus. (John 8:42)

Because God is my Father, I hear God’s Words. (John 8:47)

Because God is my Father, I’m no longer a slave to sin. (John 8:32)

Because God is my Father,  Jesus has set me free and I AM FREE INDEED! (John 8:36)
