THE THREAT: New Jersey Bill A861

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We need your immediate attention and action. New Jersey pregnancy centers are facing a significant legislative challenge that threatens our mission and ministry.

What's Happening

New Jersey Assembly Bill A861, sponsored by Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson (District 15), specifically targets pregnancy centers with new advertising restrictions that could severely impact our operations.  It applies ONLY to pregnancy centers who do not perform or refer for abortion, chilling our constitutionally protected right to freely speak.

What The Bill Would Do

If passed into law, Bill A861 would:

•   Create penalties for pregnancy centers deemed to use "misleading or deceptive" advertising
•   Give the Attorney General power to seek injunctions against our advertising and peer counseling services
•   Allow courts to mandate "remedial steps" for what they determine are "adverse effects"
•   Potentially restrict our ability to reach women in crisis pregnancies who need our support

Immediate Action Required

 New Jersey Association of Pregnancy Centers will present testimony opposing this bill at a hearing this Thursday at 10:00 AM before the Committee on Women's Affairs, but I need your support:

1. PRAY for wisdom, favor, and protection for pregnancy centers across New Jersey
2. CONTACT your representative, especially if they are a  member of the Committee immediately - urge them to vote NO on Bill A861
3. ATTEND the Committee hearing in Trenton in person to show your concern that the bill not advance.
